I just saw this response to NYT's article on Cass vs the Jack Turban article it published (with all its references to gender as defined by children's drawings and transcendent feelings that can't be expressed with words):
Contrasting Cass’s and Turban’s approach to medicine is like contrasting astronomy to astrology
Thanks for highlighting the Paul article on the Cass Review. It is thorough and thoughtful, exceedingly well done. Well worth reading, even though for those here this is well-trod ground, and definitely good for sharing with others who are not well-informed. (One “footnote”—Paul refers to the source for Levine pushing to remove the age limits as “leaked,” but those documents, as the Times itself reported elsewhere, were part of the Alabama lawsuit documents, and I believe—but do correct me if this is wrong—were publicly available.)
The article has already been corrected on the point I noted. Good to see: “A correction was made on July 12, 2024: A previous version referred incorrectly to emails that disclosed communications between the Department of Health and Human Services and WPATH. The emails were released in a lawsuit, they were not leaked.”
Hi Lisa. I’m a retired pediatrician still an AAP member. Just want to report there are 62 resolutions for the members to vote on before the AAP leadership conference. 0 on trans or gender issues.
Yep, Pamela Paul rocks it again. The opening sentences echo Lisa's piece in The Hill, such that I was cheering "thank you, Lisa!" as I read. I'd like this sentence from the end of the Paul piece to be the headline: "There is no basis to rush putting kids on an irreversible path of medicalization".
The murder and dismemberment is truly horrific. Maybe instead of screaming trans victim, we could get 14 year olds off of grindr.
Kid wasn't reported missing for I think two days. We'll never get the rest of the story, but those two things really bother me about the situation. How many kids get raped and killed by online predators? There was a cop from Virginia who came to California after pretending to be a kid and kidnapped a teen and killed her family.
Right? And an adult creep killing a 14 y.o. after statutory rape (the age of consent is 16 in NJ) is sadly not unheard of and doesn't scream "hate crime", it's a pervert trying to cover up the rape. Poor kid.
I'm waiting for Jack Turban to tell us where he studied child development. The long accepted Piaget stages of development, from sensori-motor (age 0-2) through pre-operational and operational stages, along with the concept of object permanence, acquired age 3-4, do not dovetail with "wrong body since birth" narrative. As a retired early childhood and science/math teacher, I have to explain it all, part 1 so far:
I am disappointed to see that the White House, that seemed to be subtly walking back its stance on so-called gender affirming care for minors, on July 8 (responsive to scandalous HHS and AAP discoveries), caved again to pressure from activists on July 10.

How was a 14yo (Pauly Likens) able to have a Grindr profile? Her dad reported her missing 2-3 days after he last saw her. WTF?
FYI re the Paul article: I am the only one to comment so far on this article. Please add your voice to thank her!
Lots of comments now, and in the ones Paul replies to, she shows excellent command of the issues.
