I sense a shift. For years, we’ve been trying to combat misinformation-presented-as-truth, always scrambling to respond to increasingly outlandish claims about gender medicine. (See: Jack Turban in The New York Times recently: “transcendent sense of gender” as official medical term.) Between the Cass Review and the WPATH/Johns Hopkins/HHS scandal, it’s starting to feel like the misinformation purveyors are on the back foot. Case in point: today’s Times column about Cass. (For the record, I sent in three Cass-related op-eds. They still don’t seem to be letting anyone else touch the subject, so extra thanks to Pamela Paul for sticking with it.) When you pull back the left/right framing and focus on the science, a wholly different picture emerges. That’s exactly what the media should be helping people see. Marketers, apparently, are shying away from the cause now that the picture is getting clearer.
Alejandra Q has brought us a comprehensive list once again. She starts with a series of headlines about the murder of a teen who transitioned. Grim stuff. Although I don’t believe hate crime legislation is of any use, it’s a horror to see these stories about violence against people who transition. That’s yet another reason we need to rescue the issue from the culture war.

It did so despite the administration’s longstanding, well-documented support for these very procedures. On July 2, 19th News, a progressive news site, published another statement that it had received from the White House. This one reiterated the Biden administration’s opposition to surgeries but added that the White House ‘continue[s] to support gender-affirming care for minors like mental health care and respect[s] the role of parents, families, and doctors in these decisions’ (emphasis added). Notably absent was explicit support for puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones; the statement seemed to equate ‘gender-affirming care’ with ‘mental health care.’” (City Journal)

I just saw this response to NYT's article on Cass vs the Jack Turban article it published (with all its references to gender as defined by children's drawings and transcendent feelings that can't be expressed with words):
Contrasting Cass’s and Turban’s approach to medicine is like contrasting astronomy to astrology
Thanks for highlighting the Paul article on the Cass Review. It is thorough and thoughtful, exceedingly well done. Well worth reading, even though for those here this is well-trod ground, and definitely good for sharing with others who are not well-informed. (One “footnote”—Paul refers to the source for Levine pushing to remove the age limits as “leaked,” but those documents, as the Times itself reported elsewhere, were part of the Alabama lawsuit documents, and I believe—but do correct me if this is wrong—were publicly available.)
