I so appreciate how Simon explains the impact all this had on the younger generation. (As a mom of older teens and (desisters) I have been able to see it in my own home.)

I think one of the largest mistakes the progressive left made was the way it went about teaching and talking about these issues. There exist worthwhile explorations about race and its history in the US and there interesting things within gender and sexuality to come to analyze and ask questions about- but rather than have the discussions what happened was they passed down conclusions and didn't even allow or encourage analysis. Not only were the conclusions often the most radical positions a person could come to but this was being passed on as being educated on the topic or issue.

I think this is also why many people who are true believers cannot explain their positions- because they never learnt any sort of foundation for these ideas- they confuse being indoctrinated with being educated and were given a script to recite if ever they were challenged. That script often attacks the person asking questions and labels them as a racist/ terf/ transphobe/ nazi/ fascist etc..

Ultimately though, I think the lack of foundation is (in part) what will topple the ideology.

Exactly this:

Yes. Exactly. They are told the right and wrong at a young age instead of being taught how things work, how to think critically, how to explore ideas, and how to simply read and write. I was a student of colonialism, imperialism, and racism as a college student, my kid was given these ideas as a 3rd grader. I was appalled.

I recently had a great conversation with Simon. He's an important, eloquent and well-versed voice in this.

I found young Price's comments about the possibility that the SSRI's so routinely prescribed to mentally vulnerable individuals may actually be contributing to or even triggering body dysmorphia and bolstering the delusion of a transgender identity VERY INTERESTING. I hope someone in a position to contribute to medical science research hears about this idea and finds it VERY INTERESTING as well. We've got a general problem with conveyor-belt treatment by clinicians treating both physical and mental ailments, and throwing pills at the situation as the first resort is a large part of that. Time and individual attention is what patients need from doctors of all stripes, but that's what's missing from our healthcare systems.

Thank you for this really great discussion. Simon, whenever you publish your memoir, can you please include, in the back of the book, the lyrics you wrote for that very bad song you just described?

Thanks, Lisa and Simon. So authentic and unafraid despite so much opposition and threats. I am a cisgender Christian. I believe that the pediatric community's response to the real challenge of gender dysphoria has been deeply flawed and wrong. Simon's story alone is an example of the doubts and nuances of adolescents with confused feelings about gender and sex. I am a dues paying member of Do No Harm and strongly support their effort to bring sanity to this whole area.

Personally, I refuse to use the term “cis” anything. I’m heterosexual, thank you. Not something I casually throw into conversation. No criticism implied, just stating my view. Language is power.

I generally agree with you but understand the audience to whom I am speaking. Keep up the faith!

What a great discussion.

Simon is a pretty straight acting guy....so discordant that he would ever see himself as a potential woman.

Simon is a bright and interesting young man but he is still young and open to all kinds of passionate ideas and ideologies. This generation is still reacting and challenging, pushing and pulling. Hopefully he will jump off the pendulum swing.
