Thou Shalt Display in a Conspicuous Place in Each Classroom of the School a Durable Poster or Framed Copy of My Ten Commandments
Lisa D's Law
While we wait for a judge to rule on Texas’s SB10, I, emperor of Heretic Village, command that residents follow these commandments, and Display Them Conspicuously.
Thou shalt not teach children that there is but one way to understand complex issues. Also, thou shalt actually teach the adults that while you’re at it.
Thou shalt remember that there is no one right way to be a boy or a girl.
Thou shalt look at the stars each evening, and ponder the possibility that it has taken their light so long to travel to your eyes that they might long ago have died. If that’s not available to you: thou shalt not forget to wonder.
Thou shalt take good care of thy teeth, while agitating for health insurance reform so that we all have proper dental coverage.
Thou shalt try not to be an asshole, while recognizing that sometimes being an asshole is necessary, but if thou has unnecessarily been assholic, thou shalt apologize, but not insist on forgiveness.
Thou shalt exercise. And not eat too much crap, but a little crap: yes. Thou shalt take pretty good to really good care of thyself.
Thou shalt not talk during the movie, including previews.
Thou shalt come around to appreciating the phrase: “It is what it is.”
Thou shalt read books.
Thou shalt make things.
Thou shalt try to find as many things funny as possible, even things tragic and infuriating—or perhaps especially those.
Thou shalt not stand on the left side of the escalator.
Thou shalt attempt to have a positive impact in some way.
Thou shalt be a good friend and family member.
Thou shalt accept that sometimes 10 is not 10, but there are times when 10 very much is 10.
Thou shalt respect the First Amendment and grow to love and appreciate it, to cherish it and defend it, no matter how uncomfortable it makes you—or maybe especially when it makes you uncomfortable.
Taking suggestions for number eleven!
Thou shalt be better at making sure thou hath sent out the correct version, without the typos, but oh well!
Thou shalt use thy turn signals whilst driving.
