Good piece. When it comes to Paxton, Is it about a god-given duty to procreate or a god-given right to procreate? I don’t think the conservative position on abortion is necessarily about controlling women, although that’s an outcome; rather it’s about giving rights to a fetus as a separate human over the rights and wishes of the woman carrying it. On a separate but related note, I’m curious to hear your take on the Dallas Morning News editorial on trans medicalization!

Oh, that's an important distinction, yes. It's not necessarily about forcing procreation but preserving the options. In some ways, I'm against attributing motivation—it's part of killing the messenger when we don't want to deal with the message. But I was struck by the amount of space in the opinion devoted to fertility. I thought the DMN editorial was fantastic. I had sent mine there and never heard back. I was glad to see they were so compassionate, so up on the research and controversies, so willing to condemn these political acts without conceding about the science. Good stuff. Wish they would take these op-eds out from behind the paywall.

I’m sure your writing influenced their thinking—I’m so glad you sent it there

I try to send the pieces out to everyone I can. The consequence of that is that editors I've written many things for then consider me too sullied to work with—by trying to transcend ideologies I look like an ideologue. Can't throw around "it's Kafkaesque" enough.
