It's Hard to Be Heard

Bridging the divide with Brandon Showalter

Journalist Brandon Showalter has been in the trenches of the gender culture war for a decade now. I met him a few years ago in said trenches, and, as I’ve written about, it was a perspective-shifting moment for me. Amid all the pain and gaslighting and bad faith arguments, there was a possibility for our narrow worldviews to expand.

I asked Brandon to talk with me about where we overlap and where we don’t, to distill the religious arguments against sex-trait changes, and to share what it’s like to battle against the wrongdoing of your own side. For he is brave enough to call out his own people when they stray.

Bio: Brandon M. Showalter is a journalist with The Christian Post who has reported extensively on the developments of the “gender identity” movement and transgender ideology. He has been featured in a number of documentaries on the subject including the 2022 indie film “Dead Name.” His original documentary podcast, “Generation Indoctrination: Inside the Transgender Battle,” which began in 2022, explores the gender issues in depth.

He was first inspired to pursue a career in writing and journalism while mopping floors and scrubbing toilets as a church custodian in April 2015. He earned a bachelor’s degree in international studies and Spanish from Bridgewater College of Virginia in 2007, and a Master of Arts in human rights from The Catholic University of America in 2022. His favorite thing to do in life is sing.
