The problem is that presenting two polarized sources will almost always come with significant distortions. Jonathan Haidt has a project that encourages students to consult sources from two extremes. That project has a similar weakness. Unfortunately I’ve come to believe that the only way to be truly informed on some of the most contentious issues is to read very broadly. Lisa has done this. I’ve done this. Many of you have done the same.
The fairest, most socially beneficial standpoint won’t always be smack in the middle. We have to learn to cut through the propaganda. This will only get harder as AI-generated content swamp Internet. I wish I saw an easier path!
Yes. If we applied the Haidt approach (as you have described it) to the Israel/Palestine issue, the only stuff students would read would be Hamas propaganda and Likud propaganda. If we applied it to political economy, the only stuff students would read would be by Mao Zedong and Ayn Rand.
Since 1947, Palestinian "liberators" have turned down twelve different plans for a two-state solution and permanent peace because killing Jews is their actual jam. In that time, the number of Palestinians has increased tenfold. Just going by numbers, Israelis are the worst, most bullshit genocidaires in the history of mass murder. Just absolutely worthless at wiping out their enemies.
First, keep in mind, the word 𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘦𝘳 has been redefined by the Woke. In most contexts, it has no stable definition; it's available to any attention seeking individual who feels the need for the social cachet of "oppression". Painting your fingernails black is recommended but not required. In fact, in one survey, about half the people surveyed who self-idenified as LGBTQIA+ had never had any sort of same-sex experience or even such a fantasy.
When I first encountered the current use, I believed it was just a reflection of the ignorance of the youngsters, that they were not aware it always was and always will be hate speech of the worst sort. Now i'm convinced it's another instance of the Woke inventing a new esoteric, ambiguous meaning for internal use but mainly used to baffle and confuse the public.
What's even more astonishing and scandalous is the apparent ignorance of the Woke of the doctrine of Islam as to the treatment of gay people. In Iran, someone charged with homosexual conduct is offered a choice: submit to brutal surgical mutilations and a lifetime of dependence on dangerous drugs or be thrown off the roof of a tall building. The government will even pay for the surgery! It brings the offender back into compliance with Allah's design, it seems. The doctrine in other countries that conform to Sharia traditions is similarly barbarous.
HAMAS is an offshoot of the fundamentalist Muslim Brotherhood., so there's no reason to think it doesn't have a similar platform. Frankly, I suspect Queers for Palestine and the organization in Gaza mentioned in the article are "Astroturf" groups, organized solely to give a false impression to the public of their true goals.
In 2017 Australians voted in favour of Federal legislation for same-sex marriage. The electoral districts where the "No" vote was highest included those with the highest percentages of Muslim voters. A self-described "LGBTQ Rights" Facebook group published a meme resorting to highly fallacious reasoning to deny the obvious conclusion to be drawn from this correlation. It soon after published a meme claiming that Islam had been free of homophobia prior to the encroachments of "Western imperialism".
Braver Angels is a group working across the red and blue divide. I'll be attending their 2024 Convention this week in Kenosha, WI. Who else will be there?
We need more places like the Institute for Multipartisan Education that encourage dialog respectful dialog. Another site worth checking out is The Flip Side, which curates a daily email of liberal and conservative viewpoints on hot topics in the news. https://www.theflipside.io/
I suggest the "Queers for Palestine" look up the words of the following fundamentalist Islamic leaders, translated from Arabic to English on many platforms, easily searchable. The last one was voted most popular imam in a recent Al Jazeera poll in the Muslim world. Imams to read and take seriously because they are not regarded as fringe in the Muslim world: Mustafa Barghouti, Mohammad Hijab, Hasan Nasrallah, Abdullah al Andalusi, Ghazi Hamad, Takadum Al-Khatib, and, the favorite, a Yemeni imam, Habib Umar bin Hafiz. Then, look up the words of former Muslims, Mosab Hassan Yousef, Yasmine Mohammed and Ayaan Hirsi Ali. When someone says they want to kill you, their family wants to kill you, their holy book says to kill you and their culture first and foremost wants to kill you, believe them. Islam, the youngest of the Abrahamic religions, is from the year 628, centuries after Christianity originated and millennia after Judaism was established. Yet, imams the world over claim that Abraham, Moses, Isaac, Jacob and all the other Jewish patriarchs ARE Muslim. The culture of Scheherazade, 1001 Arabian Nights is essential reading for understanding the value of truth in the Islamic world. Good luck with your quest, Lisa. For some reason, I am reminded of trans totalitarianism and violence, to be found in every weekly edition of Genevieve Gluck's well-researched Reduxx.com reports on men going to prison for murder and demanding to be housed in the female estate, with full support of Chase Strangio and her cohort at ACLU.

I am not seeing why this is even potentially a useful resource.
Palestine is the new trans.

Mustafa Barghouti is a Palestinian secular nationalist and a former member of the Palestinian Communist Party.
Nevertheless, he has the same goals of killing Jews as the others. I do not care whether he believes in the Marxist religion or sha'aria law.
