So many excellent quips in this post! Here is a favorite: “Listen, if you’re a male and you really want to “feel like a woman,” get used to being told what you can and can’t do, especially with your body. My suggestion is you start your gender journey in Afghanistan, where the Taliban will impose a dress code (oh, and no education for you!), and then head on to Iran.” 💕💕💕

I noticed that Michelle Obama said that people should not be discriminated against for who they are or who they love. That’s the rhetorical move that keeps Democrats believing that trans rights are civil rights, rather than something else altogether.

I watched parts of the DNC but didn’t hear “protect trans kids” spoken—did anyone else hear someone say that at the DNC?

I didn't hear it either, and in Kamala's speech last night, I only heard her refer to "who you love". Maybe her move towards the center will be one that allows for more common sense and nuance on this issue!

I hope you’re right—and I’d like to share this fantasy. What I fear is more likely though, is that to many liberal folks (including friends of mine), don’t really understand that “who you love” is completely irrelevant to gender identity. They just think supporting the TQ+ world is part and parcel with being supportive of people with LGB sexual orientation, so to be a good liberal, you have to do both. Also, Kamala’s sister Maya is on the Board of Directors of the Arcus Foundation, so that’s a matter of concern, as well. https://www.arcusfoundation.org/latest-on-lgbtq-social-justice/

I don’t know how we get ourselves out of this mess, but I guess we just have to keep trying to speak up as and where we can.

Kara Dansky, women's rights activist who lost her job at the ACLU after speaking out against males in female spaces, sent an open letter to Kamala Harris urging her to change direction on the Biden administration's evisceration of Title 9. No replies. She communicated with Maya, Kamala's sister, regarding the gross violation of women's rights by men claiming to be women and got no answer. She knew Maya personally. Thanks for your accuracy. I wish the Dems cared about accurate presentations of their positions. They shill for crossdressing men as a gesture of "inclusivity."

Kara’s letter was terrific!

One correction: just listening to a podcast with Kara Dansky, and Maya Harris served on the Arcus Board 2017-19 but doesn’t any longer. I don’t think this changes the essential point, which is about headset, but just wanted to be as accurate as possible.

I believe Kamala is open to common sense on this issue. She was also walking the line on Gaza/Israel a little too which I think was smart.

This is what jumped out at me too. I was wondering if the line "who they are" was a way to appease the activists. I am wondering if/hoping they are keeping things vague so they can have more wiggle room around the politics of it. I think they know the data that most voters aren't for transitioning kids and possibly hearing about Europe's changes and the cases being heard on a federal level. I can fantasize.

The epic documentary, Behind the Looking Glass, will premier on Lime Soda Films channel this Friday, August 30. Vaishavi Sundar, rising filmmaker cancelled after her excellent film Dysphoric was rejected by Sundance, has outdone herself, with an original score and animation for those of us trans widows with litigious and/or violent ex-husbands. I appear on screen. I don't expect any Dem candidates to even admit they watched it.

Excellent Broadview in Brief, Lisa! Thank you so much. About D. Coleman's book, the idea to discuss is a good one. I have it on audiobook, so ready when you (and anyone else) are.

On Sex and Gender is next in my ebook queue (after Jews Don't Count by David Baddiel, whom I am embarrassed to say I had never heard of until someone on another Substack recommended his excellent book on anti-Semitism).
