Thanks for watching!
There is a term called "White Hat Bias" which was coined by researchers looking at reporting of data on obesity and risk factors for obesity which I think is an exceptionally apt term for the current research and reporting on gender transition care. "Whether WHB is intentional or unintentional, stems from a bias toward anti-industry results, significant findings, feelings of righteous indignation, results that may justify public health actions, or yet other factors is unclear... We suggest that authors be more attentive to reporting primary results from prior studies rather than selectively including only part of the results. Clinicians, media, public health policymakers, and the public should also be cognizant of such biases.... [and view the literature] more critically." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2815336/
Thank you for this discussion and for linking to the Yale “Integrity Project” Cass critique-document. I’m sure the Yale piece will be referred to in all our listservs and in media. Having listened to this conversation and now read the “critique” (riding in a car for five hours—light reading!-ha) I am prepared to speak when it is waved around.
