I first interviewed Dr. Scot Glasberg in 2024, when several plastic surgeons reached out to complain that the panel he’d convened on gender surgeries with Dr. Hilary Cass had been postponed—due to politics, they were certain. The real story, which we discuss here, was more complicated. And though the piece I wrote about it was killed, the interview led unexpected places, as we discuss here.
This was a great interview, covering patient autonomy; the challenge of talking about evidence when others cling to gender medicine as a human right; and why the ASPS chose 19 as the cut-off year for gender surgeries in their new position statement, among many other topics.
