Don't call objectors right-wing. Also: The left is nuts, too.
To the Editor:.
I am a lifelong liberal. I support legislation which affords protection for all, no matter their race, religion, or sexual orientation. However, it is incorrect to state that all those who express concerns about HB6638, to revise the state’s anti-discrimination policies, are proponents of a far right, fringe, QAnon moral panic. It is true that some are, but it is also true that a far left fringe group of activists have proposed that MAP (Minor Attracted People) be classified as an identity or gender. It is not unreasonable to consider how, if at all, this proposed legislation will include, or not include, this newly identified "gender."
Sadly, there are fringe elements on both the far right and far left. They feed each others' outrage and thrive on fear and ignorance. They threaten our ability to act cooperatively and productively as we attempt to move forward in the democratic process. Those of us who wish to defend the rights of all citizens have an obligation to discuss these important issues with calm, rational, fact-based evidence.
Sincerely,
XXXXX
