Wheeler had a viral video a couple years back of him speaking against a trans issue (bathroom or sports?) while the rest of his Dem colleagues walked out of the NH legislature. A really courageous act in going against the party line. I would be very interested to hear if anything has changed in his thinking and what the party response was. He could be a potential party leader in this area…
Genderism has had an impact on so many worlds and fields. I would be interested in hearing from people in the arts, especially dance, which is based on physicality. What has changed? What should change?
It seems premature to "piece together what happened and what should happen now" while it's all still happening. Some of it has lessened, thanks to SCOTUS and Trump, but the true believers are doubling down, for those same reasons. At this point, most of the people you talk to won't even agree on what happened, let alone what should happen now.
That said, I hope that Helen Joyce is on your list. As one of the most level-headed and perspicacious thinkers in the gender space, she probably has some ideas about the way forward, though maybe not as it relates to US politics.
One area that needs addressing before we can move forward is gender education in elementary schools. We will never find our way out of this mess as long as kids are being taught in first grade that you can "identify as a boy, a girl, neither, or something in between." Maybe you can talk with some of the people who are responsible for getting these curricula into the schools.
Sasha Ayed, Paul Garcia-Ryan are two contemporary clinicians that come to mind who I'd listen to, since the role of psychotherapy profession is of critical importance in any future reform movement and also in terms of historical perspective, Ken Zucker and Steve Levine--none of them are ideologues although they are all critical observers of what has evolved over time in terms of idealogical influences on treatment of gender distress
Here's what trans widows can add to this effort. We saw grown men descend into unhappy, manipulative dependency on his wife for validation. He disrespected boundaries, "borrowing" our makeup, clothing and accessories. We've been vilified about 54% of the time, with 80 ex wives' information from The Heggen Survey. He is also sexually assaulting his wife 39% of the time, physically assaulting her 39% of the time and all of the above is swept under the rug by "professionals" when we allow husband to drag us to counseling to deal with what's next in the relationship. I do not include women who pretend to be coping, happily acting like this "true self" he now claims to be is an ideal partner. The role of sissy hypno pornography as the lure into the rabbit hole is not considered seriously or often enough. All of this filters down to under age patients, because these men need children's involvement to justify their agenda. We've now seen Brad Lander turn into a cult lackey of Mamdani and his crew, where they all spout the self-contradictory doctrine of child transition in a context promoting Shariah law. It is a forced woke societal breakdown and I'm relieved to have moved further north from woke, unbalanced Kingston, New York, where the Hudson Valley alphabet center dominates the formerly charming uptown. Every other store sports a male in lipstick and garish nail polish behind the counter. Always quick to start shouting and harassing any customer foolish enough to just want to get the quarter pound of whitefish salad for $22. Yes, Manhattan prices come along with this enterprise. I have no regrets about moving into a religious and conservative neighborhood north of the New Paltz-Kingston-Woodstock hippie Disney World. I'm wondering if James Carville will lead the "moderate Democrats" to the schism he's now promoting. What's been interesting for me in this more northerly spot is the African Americans telling me they're so grateful to hear the truth that one cannot change sex, telling me they feel unable to contradict the woo they'll never actually buy into.

Just reread Ezra Klein's interview and podcast with Tim "Sarah" McBride and a piece in Slate interviewing Laverne Cox. From my reading, it seems that both have come to believe that the transgender movement has failed or had blown its opportunities in the US, for different reasons, mostly strategic/tactical. Neither, in my view, showed understanding of, or interest in, sex realists' objections, women's/LGB/children's rights, or freedom of speech. It may be, therefore, that speaking with proponents of gender identity ideology (e.g., ACLU, HRC, GLAAD) would be fertile ground for next steps...
For me, ANY candidate who supports gender affirming care, thinks men can be in women's spaces, etc will NOT get my vote. We need to make sure all candidates explain where they satnd on this issue.

Yes. This is the way forward. Unfortunately, the GOP playbook of draconian, hateful and bad faith answers to the question has driven the left further into the wilderness. Progressives got played and they don't even know it. Taking this issue from the right can only be accomplished by having non-political actors with standing (parents of all backgrounds and persuasions) rebuke the politics. Right now, I'd say most of us feel that won't happen.
