Wonderful letter. I wish it would be published in the NY Times.

THIS 100% BELONGS IN THE NYT OPINION SECTION

Yep. But the NYT would never publish it. The NYT has been pushing trans ideology for years -- and censoring reader comments that object to it.

Brilliant explanation of the difference between trans and gender nonconforming and an exposure of the ignorance of wee meaning pols who care only about being perceived as in tune with the progressive zeitgeist rather than what children need.

Further horrors described as 'care'. Excellent letter. I hope you get through. Ludicrous acronym. Maybe they sense time is up, for piggybacking on gay & lesbian rights. Good luck.

TGNCNBI, a dangerous acronym…probably not long before we see it used by HRC, PFLAG, PPH, and others. Thank you Lisa for raising the flag on this

Andrew Sullivan found this last November: TGNCIQ+

As both he and Ben Appel said, I hope this acronym catches on and spreads. It will be proof that TQ+ can exist without LGB.

While I agree that TQ+ needs to be separated from LGB, I think it’s dangerous to link GNC with “trans.” This puts GNC kids in the sex denial and chemical and surgical sex trait modification category.

Oh, 100% agreed. It's interesting to notice that just like the original ever-metastasizing acronym, this new one is also changing and acquiring cruft.

(Still waiting for someone in favor of the new acronym to notice that "gender non-conforming" gets 3 letters in the acronym, while everyone else gets just 1. Major equity implications in that, huh?...)

David thank you for teaching me a new word today- “cruft”. Originates from tech/software programming, meaning badly designed, or unnecessarily complicated. I agree there is a lot of cruft in identity politics and gender nonsense.

About 4 or 5 years ago I got interested in gender world because of that euphemistic phrase, "gender affirming care". It struck me as dishonest.

I then saw things like "gender non-conformity" "gender dysphoria", etc.

And at once I realized that I was looking at the re-pathologization of homosexuality.

My question is: is Shahana Hanif muslim, and if so does he? she? believe in a "gendered soul" as do the Shia Muslim jurists in Iran? Is that where this is coming from?

you can look at her political backers here: https://www.shahanafrombk.com/endorsements

It's an interesting cross-section of democratic interest groups and power brokers. I wonder if it's possible for LGB to re-assert power in what used to be LGB organizations that now promote trans medicalization?

Hanif is just another example of a tone-deaf Democrat looking to score social justice points.

When will they finally see the irony of using the word "protection" when referring to their efforts to guarantee easy access to the medicalization of gender non-conformity?

Children (most of whom would grow up to be gay) can no more "consent" to have their healthy breasts and genitalia removed or take puberty blockers than they can "consent" to have sex with an adult. Similarly, parents and doctors can no more approve such permanent mutilation simply because a minor child desires it than they can approve their participation in pedophilia.

Ultimately society will see the truth and ban the practice as we have banned female genital mutilation. Do people support that practice if the parents consent? I truly hope not. It is monstrous to believe otherwise and those who do will ultimately be held to account for their actions. The obscene (now happily fired) bureaucrat Richard Levine among those in the dock.

Great letter. Please let us know if you hear back!

Your council member's announcement and this law just shows once again that the biggest problem is the lack of understanding of the issues among liberals. They think they are being progressive when the opposite is true.

I also keep wondering if this whole trans cult is just a way of coping with internalized homophobia, which is apparently more common in progressive communities than I used to think, and maybe in this case is reinforced by the council member's Muslim background.

What exactly is gender non conforming? It sounds mysoginist. I am a woman, with female body parts but don't wear skirts or make up and have short hair. What exactly are the stereotypes we are not conforming to? Why would the ring a stereotype make you non binary? Wouldn't it be better to fight the stereotypes instead of rejecting who you are?
