I witnessed one of these protests outside my downtown Ontario home the other day... As usual, neither the media nor anyone in authority is speaking to the heart of the issue:
-FACT-BASED SEX-ED, which has been taught successfully in Public (not so much Public Catholic) schools for decades, vs THEORY-BASED SEX-ED: are protesters objecting to one or both?
-FACT OR FICTION:
1) Gender Ideology has created harmful confusion for some children and adolescents.
2) Basic scientific facts regarding sex encourage children to engage in premature sexual activity.
-AGE-APPROPRIATE LEARNING: can we please hear from some HIGHLY EXPERIENCED, IDEOLOGY-FREE child-psychology experts??
-RIGHTS: this isn't just about PARENTAL or CHILD Rights: although no one will breathe a word of it in public, this is more fundamentally about CULTURAL Rights, and that is a deep, tricky knot. It's so tricky, it's easier to fling accusations of Evil and Hatred rather than speak to what's really going on.
Placing books from authors like Helen Joyce, Abigail Shrier, Dr. Miriam Grossman, Christine Benvenuto and myself in spots where woke-ists might find them and learn a fact or two is one small step. Here's my one small step just outside of PS 107 in Brooklyn. Read the books, memorize the facts, get them out to others:
Big thanks to you and Alejandra Q. for another excellent weekly round-up. I somehow missed the Politico article on McBride, so many thanks for the link. I have to say, I found it depressing, as it signals, even further, how much Biden is dug in and manifestly unable to see the problems with his and the overall D position. McBride will, if the winner, have even more influence with Biden and the Congressional Dems, while, meanwhile, the, to my mind, much more important concerns we all have about the serious negative impacts arising from gender identity ideology and activism continue to be swept under the rug.
I've watched McBride speak on gender, so I know we have deep disagreements on foundational definitions when it comes to that issue. But I'm also a Dem, so I know we have quite a bit of alignment on other issues, and McBride may be an excellent congressperson in every other area. I don't know...I think everyone will eventually learn that many of the current practices are wrong, even McBride and even Biden.
That’s the conundrum. I am also a lifelong D, and it’s why I find all this so particularly dismaying. Watching developments in the UK and now Canada are at least a source for hope. I tend to think, though, that Biden will be in the caboose on changing course on these issues, and McBride will be there with him. But I will champion any D who breaks out of the pack and returns to common sense. Who, I wonder, will be the first?
Do not fall for the veto. He hasn’t changed his stripes, he is hiding them to gain a broader audience. Obama did the same thing and it worked well for him.......not for the country, though.
That's okay, I have a subscription. I wish the reporter had interviewed more medical and mental health experts beyond Anderson. There's a clear answer to the question in the title, but she leaves it at a this side/that side piece. I hope US lawyers reach out to the British National Health Service for supporting materials for their court cases.
Thank you. My goal was to speak in a way that progressive educators could hear, and I do think it's shareable with anyone (although I find that speaking in progressive lingo tends to annoy conservatives!). I'm glad you've felt that you could pass it along.
The AG hasn't lost yet--he got a stay of the pro-parental notification policy in Chino Valley where he stepped in, but it hasn't been litigated yet. The Escondido ruling was two teachers vs a school district, and I hope it has a positive impact on the Chino case! I agree, the public is absolutely overwhelmingly against keeping secrets from parents.
Kate, wow, I am glad Coastal flagged the interview with you--I am listening now! If you feel comfortable, I hope you will flag for us here, going forward, when you do such interviews.
Sure! I hadn't thought about doing that, and I'm glad you're both taking a look. I am going to be on a FAIR webinar parent panel next week and will share on In Brief when the recording is available. I will note that because I am not anonymous, I don't share much about my own family...which I think can be frustrating to listen to, but it's worth it to me to be transparent about my identity.

The press has become the modern STASI police for left politicians and government

Related to this discussion, I see that this just dropped from Our Duty, and it looks like a great piece of advocacy by them: https://open.substack.com/pub/ourduty/p/when-the-california-department-of?r=16541&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post

This will be on the ballot in California in 2024 if we can get the signatures:

Mark, Kate, and all in CA: Newsom just actually VETOED AB957 (surprising, but good) but it can be overridden. Our Duty has not reported this out yet (I got it from Kara Dansky), but they have a handy page for calling electeds that includes this bill here: https://open.substack.com/pub/ourduty/p/stop-these-california-bills-now?r=16541&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post Good luck, CA!
On it!
Good luck to all in CA on this!
Coastal, if you should get a link to an archive version and think to pass it on, I would love to read this!
